Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to begin a two-day visit to Gujarat today, inaugurating multiple development projects valued at Rs 82,000 crore.
This visit marks his first to the state following the recent ‘Operation Sindoor’ and highlights the government’s focus on infrastructure and economic growth in the region.
A key highlight of PM Modi’s visit is the launch of two new train services, including a Vande Bharat Express, which he will inaugurate via video conferencing from Dahod.
According to Dilip Kumar, Executive Director (Information and Publicity), Railway Board, these trains include the Sabarmati-Veraval Vande Bharat Express and the Valsad-Dahod Express.
The Sabarmati-Veraval Vande Bharat Express will connect Sabarmati station in Ahmedabad with Veraval near the revered Somnath temple, operating six days a week except Thursdays.
With eight coaches, the train is expected to significantly benefit pilgrims and tourists visiting one of Gujarat’s most famous pilgrimage sites.
The second service, the Valsad-Dahod Express, will run daily with 17 coaches covering 346 km, connecting Valsad and Dahod with stops at 12 stations en route, including Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, and Godhra.
This train will boost daily commuting and regional connectivity.
Prime Minister Modi will begin his day in Dahod, inaugurating the Loco Manufacturing Shop-Rolling Stock Workshop, established at a cost of over Rs 21,000 crore under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
BJP Gujarat made a post on social media platform X, welcoming the Prime Minister.
He will also flag off an electric locomotive and later address residents in Kharod, Dahod, while laying foundations for railway and government projects worth Rs 24,000 crore.
Following Dahod, PM Modi will travel to Bhuj to inaugurate and lay the foundations for projects worth over Rs 53,000 crore.
These projects encompass infrastructure development at Kandla Port, solar power plants, electricity transmission systems, and road construction, benefiting districts such as Kutch, Jamnagar, Amreli, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Ahmedabad, Tapi, and Mahisagar.
In an effort to improve living standards, the Prime Minister will inaugurate four group water supply schemes costing Rs 181 crore.
These schemes will provide clean drinking water to 4.62 lakh people across 193 villages and one town in Mahisagar and Dahod districts.
On May 27, PM Modi will lead a roadshow in Gandhinagar before inaugurating and laying foundations for projects worth Rs 5,536 crore at Mahatma Mandir.
This includes the construction of 22,055 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, built at a cost of Rs 1,006 crore, and the Phase-3 development of the Sabarmati Riverfront, budgeted at Rs 1,000 crore.
Under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana, the government will distribute cheques totalling ₹3,300 crore to urban local bodies to support further urban infrastructure development.
PM Modi’s visit will feature grand roadshows, including a three-kilometre procession from Ahmedabad Airport to Indira Bridge, expected to draw over 50,000 BJP workers and citizens.
The following morning, a two-kilometre roadshow in Gandhinagar will welcome PM Modi with around 30,000 supporters, reflecting the high enthusiasm surrounding his visit.
