PM Modi Describes India-Cyprus Ties As Forward-Looking And Resilient

Prime Minister Narendra Modi characterised India’s relationship with Cyprus as forward-looking and resilient, underpinned by shared democratic values. He made these remarks after meeting President Nikos Christodoulides in the capital.

The leaders met at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, where they conducted comprehensive discussions on strengthening cooperation.

Following the meeting, both countries agreed to upgrade their ties to a strategic partnership, signalling a deeper level of engagement.

Prime Minister Modi pointed to the steady growth in investment relations between the two nations and expressed confidence in further expanding trade links. He underlined that stronger economic cooperation would create mutual benefits.

The Ministry of External Affairs stated that multiple agreements were concluded during the visit. These include setting up a Joint Working Group on counter-terrorism and initiating collaboration in diplomatic training between the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service and Cyprus’s Diplomatic Academy.

Both countries also agreed to enhance cooperation in higher education and research initiatives.

Prime Minister Modi noted that the visit of President Christodoulides would deliver positive outcomes for citizens of both nations and contribute towards a more sustainable global future. The leaders reiterated their shared commitment to addressing global challenges together.

Ahead of formal talks, Prime Minister Modi and President Christodoulides shared a cordial moment as they posed for a photograph at Hyderabad House, reflecting the warmth in bilateral ties.

The decision to elevate ties marks a significant milestone in India–Cyprus relations.

The move will unlock fresh opportunities for cooperation across economic, strategic, and academic domains while reinforcing a shared vision for global progress.
