PM Modi Criticises Bengal Government Over Malda Episode, Says Country ‘Deeply Disturbed’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the West Bengal government following the recent incident in Kaliachak, Malda district. The episode, in which judicial officers were allegedly taken hostage, has triggered widespread concern nationwide.

While addressing a large public rally in Cooch Behar, he stated that the incident had left the entire country deeply disturbed. He raised serious questions about the state’s governance, remarking that if members of the judiciary are unsafe, the plight of ordinary citizens could be even worse.

The Prime Minister criticised the administration led by the All India Trinamool Congress, alleging a significant decline in law and order. He asserted that institutions meant to uphold the Constitution have repeatedly come under threat.

He also said that the Supreme Court of India has raised concerns about the situation, highlighting its seriousness.

Alleges Support for Illegal Infiltration

PM Modi further accused the ruling party of enabling illegal infiltration in border regions. He claimed that continued unauthorised entry across the Indo-Bangladesh border has led to major demographic changes in several districts.

According to him, the ruling party protects such elements for political advantage and opposes measures like electoral roll revisions for this reason.

Referring to the upcoming elections, the Prime Minister voiced confidence in the Election Commission of India to conduct elections that are free, fair, and devoid of violence.

He called upon voters to exercise their franchise without fear or intimidation, underlining the importance of democratic participation.

The Prime Minister suggested that public dissatisfaction with the current government is increasing. He indicated that there is a visible demand for political change and expressed belief that voters would reflect this sentiment in the elections.

The Prime Minister’s remarks underscore intensifying political tensions in West Bengal, with governance and security emerging as key election issues. The Malda episode has now become central to the political narrative in the state.
