Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian women’s hockey team for their remarkable victory in the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy, hailing the triumph as an inspiring achievement for young athletes across the country.
India clinched the title for the third consecutive time, defeating China 1-0 in a tense final at the Rajgir Hockey Stadium in Bihar on Wednesday.
The victory solidifies India’s dominance in the tournament, reaffirming their position as one of the leading teams in women’s hockey.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “A phenomenal accomplishment! Congratulations to our hockey team on winning the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy. They played exceptionally well through the tournament. Their success will motivate many upcoming athletes.”
This victory is particularly significant, not just for the result but for the sustained excellence demonstrated by the team, as they have now won the prestigious title three times in a row.
To celebrate the team’s triumph, Hockey India has announced a substantial cash reward of Rs 3 lakh for each player, along with Rs 1.5 lakh for each member of the support staff.
Additionally, for the first time in the history of the competition, the Asian Hockey Federation has introduced cash prizes for the podium finishers.
India will receive a reward of USD 10,000 for their first-place finish, while China and Japan will take home USD 7,000 and USD 5,000, respectively.
The Bihar state government has also joined in celebrating the victory, announcing a generous reward for the team.
Each player will receive Rs 10 lakh in recognition of their exceptional performance during the tournament.
Chief Coach Harendra Singh has been awarded Rs 10 lakh for his leadership, while the remaining support staff members will be given Rs 5 lakh each.
