Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised that “Our diversity is India’s soul and Sardar Patel wove it into unity.”
Speaking on the occasion of National Unity Day 2025, he reiterated Patel’s vision of a united, self-reliant India, noting that the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat continues to guide the nation today.
The Prime Minister called on citizens to actively participate in the celebrations and the ‘Run for Unity’, a nationwide initiative symbolising solidarity, national integration, and collective resolve.
This year marks the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India.
Patel’s exceptional leadership during the unification of over 560 princely states into a single sovereign nation post-1947 earned him the title ‘Iron Man of India’.
PM Modi highlighted that Patel’s legacy continues to inspire citizens, particularly in strengthening India’s democratic fabric and promoting unity in diversity.
The ‘Run for Unity’, a flagship event on National Unity Day, encourages participation from students, government officials, and defence personnel. Citizens from across the nation also take part, symbolising unity and national solidarity.
PM Modi emphasised that every step taken in the run represents a commitment to uphold national integrity, harmony, and solidarity.
Alongside the marathon, schools, colleges, and institutions organised debates, cultural programmes, and awareness campaigns, reflecting India’s rich cultural diversity while reinforcing the message of unity. In Gujarat, the Statue of Unity in Kevadia served as a focal point for the celebrations.
PM Modi urged citizens to remember Patel’s contributions, from leading the Kheda (1918) and Bardoli (1928) Satyagrahas to orchestrating the political integration of India. Patel’s vision of a strong, united India remains relevant, forming the foundation for initiatives like Viksit Bharat 2047.
The Prime Minister concluded, “Celebrate Sardar Patel’s 150th birth anniversary, join the Run for Unity, and strengthen the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat. Together, we honour the man who united India and continues to inspire generations.”
