Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday called for unity against divisive forces, stressing collective responsibility to address emerging social challenges and make India self-reliant and developed by 2047.
Addressing the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav Global Sammelan in New Delhi, PM Modi urged citizens to work towards national development and connect every Indian with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
“Today, we have to unite society against the divisive forces. We must awaken our citizens to the need for self-reliance,” the Prime Minister said, adding that everyone must become more active in achieving these objectives.
PM Modi emphasised the role of young people in nation-building and said he had consistently placed youth at the centre of government policies. He welcomed their participation in the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav celebrations and praised a group of young volunteers who travelled across the country to engage with their peers.
The group covered 40,000 kilometres over 300 days and interacted with more than one lakh young people, he said, thanking the team for its efforts.
Reflecting on India’s spiritual and intellectual traditions, PM Modi referred to the Upanishadic expression ‘Vayam Amritasya Putrah’, meaning ‘We are the children of immortality’. He explained that the phrase referred to the eternal nature of consciousness rather than physical immortality.
PM Modi said India’s 75th Independence anniversary offered an opportunity to advance Viksit Bharat 2047 while preserving its civilisational values.
He praised Swami Chinmayananda’s contributions to cultural awareness and national development, and highlighted the National Education Policy’s focus on traditional knowledge, mother-tongue education, science and technology.
