PM Modi Calls Andhra CM Naidu, Reviews Damage Caused By Cyclones Arnab & Murasu

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday to assess the impact of cyclones Arnab and Murasu, which struck the state within a week.

According to an official release, Naidu briefed the Prime Minister on the damage caused by heavy rainfall and strong winds across affected districts.

He said farmers had suffered significant losses, while roads and power infrastructure had also sustained extensive damage. The Chief Minister sought appropriate financial assistance from the Centre.

PM Modi acknowledged the state government’s relief and rescue operations and praised Naidu for managing the situation through constant monitoring and vigilance.

Earlier, Naidu wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking immediate financial assistance to address the damage to crops and public infrastructure.

He outlined the hardships faced by residents and the relief measures undertaken by the state government.

Shah also spoke to Naidu on Tuesday to review Cyclone Murasu’s impact and the ongoing response. The Chief Minister briefed him on the cumulative damage, saying the state had not fully recovered from Cyclone Arnab when Murasu struck.

Naidu told Shah that Cyclone Murasu caused preliminary losses of ₹343.95 crore across eight departments, including ₹324.22 crore in agriculture.

The cyclone damaged 50,473 hectares of crops across 465 villages in seven districts, affecting 69,828 farmers. Paddy accounted for 45,900 hectares, with Bapatla, Krishna and Guntur among the worst-hit districts.

The State Disaster Management Authority and emergency centres went on high alert ahead of the cyclone. Authorities also kept 11 SDRF and 13 NDRF teams ready for relief operations.

Authorities also converted 480 schools in affected districts into relief centres and evacuated 12,230 people to safer locations.
