Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured Manipur of all possible support to restore peace and normalcy in the state, officials said on Saturday.
According to a senior official from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), PM Modi gave the assurance during a meeting with Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh at his official residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, in New Delhi.
During the meeting, Singh briefed the Prime Minister on steps taken by his government to improve the situation, including the resumption of the Imphal–Dimapur–Guwahati bus service and efforts to ensure the uninterrupted movement of goods vehicles along National Highways 37 and 2.
The Chief Minister outlined initiatives to rebuild trust between different communities. He sought approval to upgrade selected state highways to national highway status and requested that the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal be elevated to the status of an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
Manipur CM invited PM Modi to visit Manipur.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the state government’s initiatives and noted the improvement in conditions in the state, the official said.
The Chief Minister arrived in New Delhi on October 8 and has held separate meetings with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya to discuss issues concerning Manipur.
During his meeting with Singh, Shah assured him of the Centre’s full cooperation in restoring peace, accelerating development and addressing the aspirations of Manipur’s residents. He acknowledged the state government’s continued efforts to bring stability.
Passenger bus services connecting Manipur with Assam and Nagaland resumed on August 21 after remaining suspended for more than three years, providing relief to travellers and improving regional connectivity.
