Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kochi on Wednesday to inaugurate several major development projects and launch the National Democratic Alliance’s campaign for the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections.
PM Modi landed at Cochin International Airport at around 11:35 AM. His visit includes the inauguration of infrastructure projects worth thousands of crores and participation in a major political rally organised by the NDA.
The Prime Minister will hold a roadshow in Kochi’s Kaloor area before leaving for Tamil Nadu at around 3 PM.
During the visit, he will inaugurate key highway projects to strengthen Kerala’s transport infrastructure. These include the six-lane Thalappady–Chengala stretch of National Highway 66 and the six-lane Vengalam–Ramanattukara stretch of the Kozhikode bypass.
Officials say the projects will reduce traffic congestion, shorten travel time and improve regional connectivity.
Authorities also expect the upgraded corridors to boost economic activity and improve logistics for businesses in the region.
The visit also marks the start of the NDA’s election campaign in Kerala ahead of the Assembly polls.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address party workers at a rally and later hold a roadshow in Kaloor.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and other senior leaders skipped the event, triggering a political controversy.
Officials allegedly did not invite Public Works Minister PA Mohammed Riyas to the ceremony, even though he handles the roads portfolio.
Leaders of the ruling Left Democratic Front criticised the move as a breach of convention.
State Education Minister V Sivankutty said the concerned state minister is usually invited and accused the BJP of trying to take sole credit for the projects.
