PM Modi Arrives In Guwahati For Himanta Biswa Sarma Oath; Amit Shah To Attend Ceremony

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Guwahati ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance government in Assam, where Himanta Biswa Sarma will take oath as Chief Minister for a second consecutive term.

PM Modi landed at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Borjhar on Monday evening. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia and senior officials welcomed him at the airport.

The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Veterinary College ground in Khanapara at 11 AM on May 12.

Earlier, Sarma reviewed preparations at the venue and said the new government would begin its term in the presence of senior NDA leaders and thousands of BJP workers from across Assam.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP president Nitin Nabin and Chief Ministers from NDA-ruled states will attend the ceremony.

Authorities tightened security across the Khanapara area ahead of the event.

Police deployed multi-layered security arrangements, barricades and traffic diversions, while senior officials monitored preparedness.

Sarma said thousands of BJP karyakartas, including booth-level workers from different districts, would participate in the ceremony. He also confirmed that the new government would hold its first Cabinet meeting shortly after the swearing-in.

The BJP-led NDA secured a decisive victory in the Assam Assembly elections, allowing Himanta Biswa Sarma to continue leading the state government for another term.
