International Nurses Day: Amit Shah Highlights Nurses’ Role In Healthcare

Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid tribute to nurses on International Nurses Day, praising their dedication, compassion and service towards patients and healthcare systems across the country.

Sharing a message on social media platform X, Shah said nurses continue to serve as a pillar of hope for people suffering from illness and hardship. He further stated that their selfless service and unwavering commitment form the true foundation of a healthy India and added that the nation takes pride in their contribution.

International Nurses Day is observed every year to recognise the vital role nurses play in hospitals, clinics, emergency wards and community healthcare services worldwide.

Nurses assist in patient treatment, provide emotional support, monitor health conditions and respond to emergencies under challenging circumstances.

The world observes International Nurses Day on May 12 to mark the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, whose work shaped modern nursing practices.

This year’s theme, ‘Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives’ highlights the need for safer workplaces, better career opportunities and stronger support for nurses.

The International Council of Nurses organises the annual observance to highlight nurses’ role in strengthening healthcare systems and releases campaign material for healthcare professionals each year.

More than 100 countries now observe the occasion, recognising nurses for their contribution to patient care and public health.

The 2026 campaign also highlights growing pressure on global healthcare systems due to staff shortages, rising patient demand and emergencies, with nurses continuing to serve on the front lines under challenging conditions.
