PM Modi Arrives In Assam For Day-Long Programme In Dibrugarh And Guwahati

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Chabua airfield in Dibrugarh district on Saturday, formally starting his day-long programme in Assam. His itinerary features several high-profile events in both Dibrugarh and Guwahati.

A central highlight of the visit is the launch of the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) located on the Moran Bypass.

This installation, the first of its kind in the Northeast, will strengthen rapid response capabilities during emergencies and enable authorities to deploy rescue and relief teams swiftly.

In the afternoon, the Prime Minister is scheduled to open a much-anticipated bridge spanning the Brahmaputra River, creating a direct link between Guwahati and North Guwahati.

Officials expect the structure to reduce traffic congestion, cut travel duration and enhance movement across the river.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the interim campus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Guwahati at Bongora.

Policymakers view the institution as a significant advancement for higher education in the Northeast, aimed at fostering managerial expertise and supporting regional progress.

As part of a broader urban mobility drive, the Prime Minister will flag off 100 additional electric buses for Guwahati. Officials state that expanding the electric fleet will modernise public transport services, lower emissions and contribute to improved air quality.

Earlier, the Prime Minister had described the establishment of IIM Guwahati as a landmark development that would draw students nationwide and reinforce Assam’s reputation as a centre for academic excellence.

The visit will conclude with an address to BJP workers in Guwahati.

Recalling the mandate secured by the BJP-NDA alliance ten years ago, he asserted that the administration has worked diligently to meet public expectations and voiced optimism about renewed support in the upcoming elections.
