Minister Credits Union Policies for Handloom Revival

With National Handloom Day approaching, Margherita highlighted how the sector has transformed through focused policy support from the Union government.

He further emphasised that this transformation aligns with the vision of Prime Minister Modi to integrate handlooms into the everyday lives of Indians.

Taking to X, the Minister posted, “With one day to go for #NationalHandloomDay, I write on the growth of the textiles sector in Bharat owing to a series of targeted interventions from the Union government and as envisioned by our Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi Ji to make handlooms a key part of our daily lives.”

“On this National Handloom Day, proud to reflect on the rich legacy and bright future of our weavers, with the sincere efforts of our Textiles Minister Shri @girirajsinghbjp Ji,” the post read.

Margherita further added, “From the looms of North East India to innovations in AI-driven design, the story of India’s handlooms reflects resilience, empowerment, and boundless creativity.”

National Handloom Day, observed every year on 7 August, commemorates the launch of the Swadeshi Movement in 1905, which championed indigenous industries, including handloom weaving.

The first celebration of this day was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi in Chennai in 2015.
