PM Modi Announces Cabinet Approval Of Rs 8,000-Crore Guwahati-Tezpur Corridor

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced the Cabinet’s approval of the Rs 8,000-crore Guwahati-Tezpur Corridor on National Highway-15, describing it as a major boost to connectivity and economic growth in Assam.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “A major boost to connectivity and growth in Assam! The Cabinet has approved a 4-lane access-controlled Guwahati-Tezpur Corridor of NH-15.”

PM Modi said the project will reduce travel time, improve road safety and ease congestion through major bypasses at several locations.

The Prime Minister added that the corridor will include an Emergency Landing Facility at Tezpur, along with bridges, flyovers, underpasses and service roads, while strengthening seamless connectivity between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

The Union Cabinet approved the four-lane access-controlled corridor to improve transport efficiency and accelerate economic growth across the Northeast.

The high-speed route will decongest the existing NH-15, enable faster movement of goods and passengers, and provide safer and quicker travel between Guwahati and Tezpur.

The Emergency Landing Facility will allow aircraft to use the highway during emergencies, highlighting the project’s strategic significance.

The corridor also includes multiple bridges, bypasses, flyovers, underpasses and service roads to improve traffic flow and regional connectivity.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked Prime Minister Modi and Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari for approving the landmark project. He said the corridor would strengthen trade, tourism and strategic infrastructure while creating fresh opportunities for economic growth in Assam and the wider Northeast.

The approval forms part of the Centre’s broader push to expand highways, bridges, railways and aviation infrastructure across the Northeast, with a focus on improving connectivity, attracting investment and supporting long-term regional development.
