Don’t Call Protesters Anti-National, Says RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said peaceful demonstrations strengthen democracy and urged people not to label protesters as anti-national. He made the remarks while addressing over 2,000 students from Generation Z and Generation Alpha during the 15th anniversary conference of the International Movement to Unite Nations (IIMUN) in Mumbai.

Highlighting his trust in young Indians, Mohan Bhagwat said Generation Z possesses honesty and sincerity that are crucial for the country’s future. He remarked that if he had to place complete faith in any generation, it would be today’s youth.

According to him, students who raise genuine concerns deserve to be listened to rather than criticised.

Mohan Bhagwat said public protests serve as an important channel of communication when unresolved issues remain. He maintained that demonstrations should focus on improving institutions instead of creating divisions within society.

Referring to Dr BR Ambedkar’s constitutional vision, Mohan Bhagwat emphasised that citizens have the right to protest, provided they remain within the framework of the Constitution.

The RSS chief called for significant reforms to India’s education system and said the country should treat education as a national responsibility rather than a commercial venture. He also backed the proposal to allocate six per cent of the country’s budget to education and urged society to work alongside the government to strengthen educational institutions.

Responding to questions about the reported use of force against student protesters, Mohan Bhagwat said he lacked sufficient information to make a fair assessment and that any judgement should be based on verified facts. He also described the LGBTQ+ community as an inseparable part of society while stating that legal provisions relating to same-sex marriage require careful consideration and wider social preparedness before implementation.
