Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday greeted Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri on the occasion of his birthday, praising his efforts to bolster India’s energy framework and promote self-sufficiency in the hydrocarbon sector.
Taking to X, the Prime Minister lauded, “Best wishes to Union Minister Shri Hardeep Singh Puri Ji on his birthday. His efforts towards ensuring India is self-reliant in the petroleum and natural gas sectors are commendable. Praying for his long life and good health.”
A number of senior political leaders also conveyed their best wishes.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari described Puri as a respected Cabinet colleague and offered prayers for his good health and a long, fulfilling life.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shared his greetings on social media, expressing confidence that Puri’s committed service to the nation would continue to scale new heights.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta similarly wished him prosperity and well-being on his special day.
Born on 15 February 1952, Hardeep Singh Puri is a former Indian Foreign Service officer with decades of diplomatic experience.
After joining the IFS in 1974, he held significant positions in the Ministry of External Affairs, including two stints as Joint Secretary, and also served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defence.
He represented India as Ambassador to Brazil and undertook diplomatic assignments in Japan, Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom, where he served as Deputy High Commissioner.
From 2009 to 2013, he was Secretary for Economic Relations in the Ministry of External Affairs. Earlier in his career, he coordinated the UNDP/UNCTAD Multilateral Trade Negotiations Project during the Uruguay Round, assisting developing nations in trade negotiations.
Puri joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in January 2014. Since assuming charge as Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas in 2021, he has played a pivotal role in shaping policies aimed at enhancing India’s energy security and accelerating the path towards self-reliance in the sector.
