Government sources revealed that the Council of Ministers, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recently convened to brainstorm on a vision document for “Viksit Bharat 2047” and a detailed action plan for the next five years. This meeting, likely the final one before upcoming elections, saw several ministries presenting their ideas. Additionally, a 100-day agenda for immediate steps post the formation of the new government in May 2024 has been devised for swift implementation of the plan.
The roadmap for “Viksit Bharat” has been in the works for over two years, employing a “Whole of Government” approach. It entailed input from all ministries and extensive consultations with State Governments, academia, industry bodies, civil society, scientific organizations, and youth mobilization, garnering ideas and suggestions from over 20 lakh youngsters through more than 2,700 meetings, workshops, and seminars.
This comprehensive blueprint for “developed India 2047” encompasses national aspirations, action points, and goals pertaining to economic growth, SDGs, ease of living, ease of doing business, infrastructure, and social welfare. NITI Aayog was tasked with consolidating the visions of 10 sectors into a unified vision for “Viksit Bharat @2047”.
The overarching goal is to elevate India to a developed nation by 2047, marking the 100th year of independence. This vision encompasses economic growth, social progress, environmental sustainability, and good governance. Presently, India ranks as the world’s fifth-largest economy, with a GDP of approximately USD 3.4 trillion, following the US, China, Japan, and Germany.
