PM Modi, Amit Shah Extend Birthday Greetings To Giriraj Singh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday extended birthday greetings to Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh, praising his efforts to strengthen India’s textile sector and empower weavers and artisans.

In a post on X, PM Modi said Giriraj Singh was undertaking several initiatives to strengthen the textile sector, which is closely linked with India’s heritage and important to the country’s vision of self-reliance. He further prayed for Giriraj Singh’s long and healthy life.

Amit Shah also conveyed his birthday wishes to Giriraj Singh and praised his work to promote the textile industry and make weavers and artisans self-reliant. Shah wished him good health and a long life.

Born on September 8, 1952, in Barahiya in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district, Giriraj Singh graduated from Magadh University in 1971. He served as a member of the Bihar Legislative Council from 2002 until May 2014 and held Ministerial positions in the Bihar government, including Cooperative Minister and Animal Husbandry Minister.

Giriraj Singh entered the Lok Sabha after winning from Nawada in the 2014 general election. In 2019, he won the Begusarai seat, defeating CPI candidate Kanhaiya Kumar, and later served as Union Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries.

Following the July 2021 Cabinet reshuffle, Giriraj Singh took charge as Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj. He retained the Begusarai seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, defeating Awadhesh Kumar Rai by 81,480 votes.

The Minister assumed charge as Union Textiles Minister on June 11, 2024. His tenure has focused on strengthening the textile and handloom sectors and supporting India’s weavers and artisans.
