Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Congress of attempting to defeat President Droupadi Murmu in the presidential election due to her “dark skin color,” according to a report by PTI. Modi made this allegation while criticizing the Congress for comments made by party leader Sam Pitroda regarding skin color, emphasizing that the nation would not tolerate insults based on skin tone. Referencing Pitroda’s remarks, Modi questioned why the Congress was making significant efforts to oppose Murmu, who hails from an Adivasi background and enjoys a strong reputation.
“I was pondering why the Congress is exerting so much effort to defeat Droupadi Murmu, who comes from a highly respected Adivasi family, but today I discovered the reason,” Modi stated. “I learned that there is an uncle in America who serves as the ideological mentor of the ‘Shehzada’ (referring to Rahul Gandhi), and like the third umpire in cricket, this ‘Shehzada’ seeks advice from him.”
Modi went on to question whether individuals’ abilities in the country would now be judged based on their skin color. “Who gave ‘Shehzada’ permission to play this game of skin color?” he asked.

Regarding Sam Pitroda’s comments, made in an interview with The Statesman earlier, where he highlighted the diverse appearances of people in India and emphasized unity despite differences, the BJP criticized them as racist and divisive. They asserted that Pitroda’s remarks demonstrated his shallow understanding of India and its culture. In response, the Congress distanced itself from Pitroda’s statements, deeming them “unacceptable and unfortunate.”
Congress leader and spokesperson Jairam Ramesh expressed disapproval of Pitroda’s analogies, describing them as “most unfortunate and unacceptable,” and reiterated the party’s dissociation from them.
