PM Modi Addresses Kokrajhar Gathering Virtually After Weather Disrupts Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a large gathering in Kokrajhar virtually on Friday after severe weather prevented his planned visit to the Bodoland region.

Speaking from Guwahati, the Prime Minister said he had departed from New Delhi, intending to reach Kokrajhar. Adverse weather conditions disrupted the journey. He therefore connected with residents of Bodoland through a digital address.

PM Modi highlighted the transformation of Assam over the past decade. He said the state had once endured prolonged violence but now advances steadily toward peace and stability.

According to him, Assam has witnessed substantial development during the last ten years. He also projected Kokrajhar and the broader Bodoland region as emerging centres of commerce and economic activity in the future.

The Prime Minister criticised the Indian National Congress, accusing the party of neglecting Bodoland and Assam when it governed the country. He claimed previous administrations signed agreements but failed to implement them effectively.

PM Modi stated that meaningful progress began only after the Bharatiya Janata Party assumed power both at the Centre and in the state. He described the current governance model as a ‘double-engine government’ working to fulfil public aspirations.

The Prime Minister also recalled steps taken during the tenure of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. His government created the Bodoland Territorial Council in 2003 to strengthen regional governance. He further emphasised the importance of the Bodo Peace Accord.

The Prime Minister said many insurgent cadres have abandoned violence and joined the mainstream.

PM Modi also underlined the expansion of healthcare facilities and medical colleges across Assam. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to Bodoland’s development and urged voters to reject Congress in the upcoming Assembly elections.

During the programme, the Prime Minister also inaugurated several development initiatives aimed at strengthening infrastructure and boosting economic growth in the region.
