PM Modi Acknowledges Mallikarjun Kharge’s Leadership With Birthday Wishes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his warmest birthday greetings to Mallikarjun Kharge, the President of the Indian National Congress and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.

Modi prayed for Kharge’s continued good health and a long life, honouring his significant political journey and contribution to Indian democracy.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi wrote, “Best wishes to the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Shri Mallikarjun Kharge Ji on his birthday. Praying for his long and healthy life.”

This public gesture reflects Modi’s respect for Kharge’s contributions to Indian politics and governance, despite their differing political affiliations.

Born on 21 July 1942 in Varawatti village of Bhalki Taluk, Bidar district, Karnataka, Kharge comes from a Dalit family and has dedicated decades to public service and political leadership.

His rise from grassroots politics to the national stage stands as an inspiring example of perseverance and commitment.

Mallikarjun Kharge assumed the office of Congress National President in 2022, becoming the first non-Gandhi family member to lead the party in 24 years. He has served as the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha since 2021 and currently represents Karnataka in Parliament, a position he has held since 2020.

His decades-long political career is marked by steadfast dedication to the values of justice, equality, and democracy.

Kharge’s leadership is widely recognised for its wisdom, courage, and unwavering commitment to constitutional principles.

Congress Pays Tribute to Their Esteemed President

The Congress party also took to social media and issued a statement honouring Kharge’s leadership and vision.

The party described him as ‘a relentless champion of justice and equality’ whose courage and political acumen inspire the entire organisation. They further emphasised Kharge’s steadfast faith in democracy and his dedication to upholding the Constitution with integrity

Congress wished him ‘good health, immense happiness, and many more years of bold, visionary leadership’.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister’s Tribute

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar also extended birthday wishes on social media, calling Kharge the ‘pride of Karnataka’.

Shivakumar praised Kharge’s lifelong dedication to the people and the ideals of the Congress Party.

He added, “Your journey from the grassroots to national leadership is an inspiration to all of us in public life. For Karnataka and for India, you remain a pillar of strength and wisdom.”

Mallikarjun Kharge’s appointment as the 98th Congress president is a landmark moment in the party’s history.

Moreover, his leadership represents a continuation of public service and dedication to the country’s democratic values, promising to guide the party with experience and vision in the years to come.
