PM Modi Accuses Congress of Inheritance Tax Plans As Controversy Sparks On Remarks Of Sam Pitroda

Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on recent comments of senior Congress leader Sam Pitroda, alleging that the Opposition party intends to impose an inheritance tax on assets passed down from parents to children. Speaking at a campaign rally in Chhattisgarh’s Surguja, Modi accused the Congress of harboring “dangerous intentions” as revealed by Pitroda’s statements. The Congress swiftly distanced itself from Pitroda’s remarks, asserting that they do not align with the party’s stance.

Referring to Mr Pitroda, he said, “The royal family’s prince’s advisor and the royal family’s prince’s father’s advisor had said that more taxes should be imposed on the middle class. Now these people have gone one step further than this, Congress says that it will impose an Inheritance Tax, and it will also impose tax on the Inheritance received from parents. The property you have accumulated through your hard work will not be given to your children. The claws of Congress will snatch that too from you…As long as you are alive, Congress will impose higher taxes and when you are no longer alive, it will burden you with Inheritance Tax.  Those people who considered the entire Congress party as their ancestral property and handed it over to their children, now do not want Indians to pass on their property to their children.”

Amidst a brewing controversy sparked by his recent interview with news agency ANI, Sam Pitroda, the head of the Congress’s overseas division, finds himself in the spotlight. Pitroda’s remarks, targeting Prime Minister Modi’s allegations regarding the Congress’s purported plans for wealth redistribution, have stirred debate. Defending the Congress’s manifesto, Pitroda accused the BJP of fabricating narratives, asserting that their focus has always been on marginalized communities such as OBCs, Muslims, Dalits, and tribals. He emphasized the need for policies addressing economic inequality, clarifying that it does not entail seizing wealth but rather implementing measures to curb wealth concentration, akin to a Monopoly Act.
