PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday addressed the 6th edition of the International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (ICDRI).
During his address, PM Modi emphasized that nature and disasters have no borders.
PM stated that in our interconnected world, when disasters strike, they affect everyone. He further added that collective resilience in the world is only possible when individual countries are resilient themselves.
Prime Minister Modi stressed the significance of shared resilience in the face of shared risks. He highlighted the crucial role of platforms like CDRI and conferences like this in fostering collaboration towards this collective goal.
PM Modi underscored the necessity of supporting the most vulnerable to achieve shared resilience effectively.
PM further expressed appreciation for CDRI’s emphasis on the Global South, noting its importance. He further highlighted a significant milestone during India’s G20 Presidency.
PM Modi asserted that a new Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group was formed with financing at the heart of the discussions.
PM expressed optimism about the future trajectory towards resilience, noting that initiatives like CDRI play a vital role. He anticipated productive discussions over the next two days focused on CDRI’s agenda, foreseeing fruitful outcomes.
In conclusion, Prime Minister Modi underscored the vulnerability of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to disasters. He praised CDRI for its Program, which funds projects across 13 such locations.
Examples include resilient housing in the Dominican Republic and robust transport networks in Papua New Guinea. These initiatives aim to enhance early warning systems and build resilience in vulnerable communities.
PM Modi emphasized the significance of international cooperation and targeted interventions in safeguarding these regions and shaping a more resilient future.
