In a special parliamentary session on national security, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing it of aligning its political discourse with that of Pakistan.
“Congress is now compelled to import issues from Pakistan,” PM Modi said, implying that the opposition party’s stance increasingly mirrors narratives originating across the border.
Addressing the Lok Sabha, the Prime Minister highlighted the success of Operation Sindoor, India’s retaliatory military operation following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam.
He described the strike as a ‘precision hit on the navel of terrorism’, a reference to the terror hubs responsible for cross-border militancy.
“We achieved our target 100 per cent,” PM Modi stated. “On the night of May 9, our missiles struck corners of Pakistan that it had never imagined. It forced them to their knees.”
He stressed that the Indian Armed Forces had fully prepared and waited for the right opportunity to strike. “Our target was clear: to destroy terror and terrorists,” he said.
PM Modi revealed that India had communicated its intent and execution to the Pakistani military within minutes of launching the operation.
“This shows the clarity and confidence with which we acted,” the PM added.
Drawing a parallel with the 2019 Balakot airstrikes, PM Modi emphasised the tactical precision and strategic continuity of Operation Sindoor.
“This time too, our forces demonstrated the strength of the nation by achieving every objective,” he asserted.
Rejecting concerns over international pressure, PM Modi stated that no global leader had urged India to stop its military action.
“Our action was non-acceleratory and entirely self-determined,” he said, noting that the Defence Ministry and Armed Forces jointly formulated and executed the policy.
Citing reports from inside Pakistan, PM Modi said the strikes caught many civilians unaware.
“They said they were bathing or getting ready for work—India attacked before they even had a chance to react,” he said, underlining the operation’s speed and surprise.
PM Modi concluded his address by outlining India’s evolving security posture.
“Retaliation will be swift and sovereign. Nuclear threats will not deter us. And we will make no distinction between terrorists and their state sponsors,” he declared.
The government hailed Operation Sindoor as a milestone in national defence.
However, opposition leaders raised questions about the government’s intelligence protocols and preparedness leading up to the Pahalgam attack.
The Lok Sabha session continues to see charged debates on national security and counterterrorism.
