Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Opposition coalition INDIA following the Supreme Court’s dismissal of requests for 100% VVPAT verification of votes cast on electronic voting machines (EVMs). Speaking at a rally in Bihar amidst the ongoing second phase of the Lok Sabha elections covering 88 seats, PM Modi accused every Opposition leader of “sinfully” instilling doubts about EVMs in the minds of the people. He asserted that the Opposition’s aspirations had been shattered by the court’s decision.
PM Modi reminisced about past electoral malpractices, including widespread booth capturing, which denied voters their rights for decades. He highlighted the significance of EVMs in empowering honest and marginalized voters, accusing the Opposition of attempting to discredit and discard this electoral technology.
The petitions challenging the EVM verification process were primarily filed by the non-profit Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and others. In a robust rebuttal, the Supreme Court questioned the credibility of ADR and cautioned against vested interest groups undermining the nation’s achievements.

Continuing his tirade against the INDIA bloc, PM Modi emphasized the verdict’s blow to those with intentions to manipulate ballot boxes. He underscored the significance of democracy and Dr. Ambedkar’s constitution, drawing a dichotomy between the BJP-led NDA’s commitment to empowering citizens and the alleged self-serving motives of the INDIA alliance.
In response to PM Modi’s remarks, Congress leader Pawar Khera queried whether BJP stalwart LK Advani’s endorsement of a book questioning EVM reliability was deemed incorrect. This statement echoed the ongoing debate over the comments made by Congress leader Sam Pitroda regarding inheritance tax policy.
PM Modi’s assertions signal a heightened political discourse surrounding the integrity of India’s electoral process and the divergent ideologies driving various political factions.
