Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met a high-level US business delegation led by Utah Senate President Stuart Adams on Monday, discussing opportunities for collaboration in cutting-edge sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI), clean energy, biotechnology, minerals, academia, and research.
In a post shared on X, Goyal said the talks focused on enhancing cooperation across diverse domains, including aerospace and advanced manufacturing.
He emphasised that the partnership between India and the US, fuelled by innovation and youthful dynamism, holds vast potential for shared prosperity.
Highlighting India’s global trade ambitions, Goyal reiterated that the country is actively negotiating trade agreements with the European Union and the United States. He noted that every trade pact would be designed to ensure mutual benefit based on India’s comparative advantages.
“We aim to double our trade in goods and services with the US to $500 billion by 2030,” Goyal stated, underlining India’s vision for a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).
The minister also addressed concerns over the US imposing a 25 per cent penal tariff on Indian goods following India’s oil purchases from Russia.
Calling the duties ‘unfair and unjustified’, Goyal confirmed that India remains in dialogue with Washington to reach a fair and equitable trade arrangement.
He added that while India remains open to cooperation, it will not rush into any agreement that compromises its long-term economic interests.
