Patna Hospital Murder: Prime Accused Tauseef Raja Nabbed Despite Disguise Attempt

In a bid to evade capture, Tauseef Raja alias Badshah – chief accused in the murder of Patna gangster Chandan Mishra – shaved his head and beard to alter his appearance. His attempt to deceive the authorities ultimately failed.

A senior officer from Kolkata Police revealed that Tauseef used a service app to summon a barber to a guest house in Anandapur, located on the southern fringes of the city. It was from this very location that police apprehended him.

“There, the barber got his head, beard, and moustache shaved. The aim was to hoodwink the police. Even his cousin, Nishu, who was arrested from the same guest house, also had his hair trimmed and beard shaven to avoid being identified and arrested,” the officer stated.

Despite the makeover, the effort did not bear fruit. Both men, along with two accomplices, were taken into custody.

Police noted that the group attempted another ploy. They parked their vehicle near a high-rise nearly 100 metres away from the guest house, instead of on the premises.

“This was done to deliberately confuse the cops and divert their attention from the guest house,” the officer said.

He admitted that their altered appearance did initially create some confusion.

“However, after questioning him, the police were convinced that they had nabbed the right persons,” he added.

Multiple Visits to Kolkata Revealed

Investigators have since discovered that Tauseef and Nishu had visited Kolkata multiple times in the past. During these visits, they stayed for several days and formed local connections.

“They had stayed here for a few days and had several acquaintances. The police are investigating these acquaintances who are residents of different pockets like Tiljala,” the officer noted.

Chandan Mishra was gunned down by five armed men inside the ICU of a private hospital in Patna on 17 July.

Acting swiftly, a joint team from the Bihar Police and the West Bengal Police’s Special Task Force, however, arrested four individuals from the Anandapur guest house on 19 July.

Those arrested include Tauseef, his cousin Nishu, his caretaker Bhim Kumar, and a male nurse, Harsh Kumar. They were presented in Alipore court on 20 July, which granted the Bihar Police a 48-hour transit remand.
