Partition Horrors Remembrance Day: PM Modi, Amit Shah Recall 1947 Tragedy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday remembered those who suffered during the Partition of India on Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, highlighting the loss, displacement and resilience associated with the tragedy.

PM Modi recalled the courage of people affected by Partition, saying the division tore apart lives, uprooted families and led to the loss of loved ones. He said many survivors rebuilt their lives from nothing, turned adversity into achievement and contributed significantly to the country’s progress.

PM Modi said their journeys reflected the strength of the human spirit.

The Prime Minister urged citizens to strengthen harmony and brotherhood and work collectively towards building a Viksit Bharat.

Amit Shah described August 14, 1947, as one of the most brutal chapters in history, recalling the deaths, suffering and displacement caused by Partition. He paid tribute to those who lost their lives and those who endured the atrocities.

The Minister described Partition as a lasting scar and blamed the Congress for the division.

The Home Minister said Partition Horrors Remembrance Day helps pass the memory of the tragedy to younger generations. He added that remembering Partition could help prevent forces seeking to divide the country from succeeding again.

India observes Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on August 14 to remember those who suffered during the 1947 Partition.

The observance seeks to preserve the memories of affected families and recognise the resilience of those who rebuilt their lives after displacement.

Both leaders emphasised remembering the tragedy while promoting national unity, harmony and brotherhood.
