Parliament Special Session: “One Nation, One Election,” UCC, And Reports That a Women’s Quota May Be Implemented

The 5-day special session of Parliament will take place from September 18–22, 2023, according to an announcement made by the Modi administration on Thursday. However, the administration has kept the extraordinary session’s topic under wraps while upholding secrecy, which has led to several rumors about why it was convened.

“A special session of parliament, consisting of five sittings and the 13th and 261st sessions of the 17th Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, respectively, has been called from September 18 to September 22. Looking forward to having good talks and debate in Parliament amid Amrit Kaal,” said Pralhad Joshi, the minister of parliamentary affairs, on X, formerly Twitter.

It will be the first such special session during the nine years of the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On June 30, 2017, a special joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha was called to commemorate the midnight launch of the GST.

While both houses will convene separately as they typically do during sessions, this time it will be a full-fledged five-day session. Budget, monsoon, and winter sessions of the legislature are typically held three times per year.

According to sources, during the “special session,” the new Parliament building, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened on May 28, may host legislative activities.

However, since the agenda has not yet been released, rumors are circulating that the government may push several showpiece bills ahead of important state assembly elections followed by the Lok Sabha elections next year.

3. Bill on women’s reservation
