Amir Hussain Lone, a para-cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir, expressed heartfelt gratitude after achieving his long-cherished dream of opening a cricket academy. With the financial support of Rs 70 lakh provided by the Adani Group, an indoor cricket facility will be established in Waghama, Anantnag.
Lone, known for his indomitable spirit, thanked Adani Group Chairperson Gautam Adani, Preeti Adani, and Jeet Adani for their unwavering support. “I thank Gautam Adani, Preeti Adani, and Jeet Adani for fulfilling my dream. They have helped me earlier, and once again, they have stood by me. The indoor cricket academy will be a huge help, especially during heavy snowfall in Kashmir. The facility will also provide free training to aspiring cricketers,” Lone said.
Amir Hussain Lone’s life is a story of resilience, determination, and triumph over adversity. Hailing from a small village in Jammu and Kashmir, Lone lost both arms in a tragic accident while working at his father’s sawmill. However, he refused to let his disability define him or hinder his passion for cricket.
He developed a unique playing style, using his legs to bowl and his shoulder and neck to bat. His dedication impressed his teachers, who introduced him to para-cricket in 2003. Since then, Lone has represented India in several international tournaments in Afghanistan, Nepal, and the UAE. Despite facing numerous financial and personal challenges, Lone remained steadfast in his love for cricket.
Earlier this year, Gautam Adani recognized Lone’s struggles and spirit in a post on X (formerly Twitter). He lauded Lone’s resilience and pledged to support him through the Adani Foundation. The foundation first provided financial aid to help Lone revive his career. Now, they have extended additional support by granting Rs 67.60 lakh to establish an “indoor cricket academy in Jammu and Kashmir.”
Expressing his gratitude, Lone said, “The Adani Foundation has been a pillar of support for me. This academy will make a significant difference for young cricketers in my village. Harsh winters will no longer be a hurdle, and aspiring players can train without interruptions. I am thrilled that my dream is now a reality.”
The indoor academy is expected to nurture local cricketing talent and provide an inclusive platform for young players, ensuring the game thrives in the challenging conditions of the Kashmir Valley.
