A sudden blackout gripped Jammu, Baramulla in Kashmir, and Pathankot in Punjab on Wednesday night as missile streaks and drone attacks were reported across the region.
Local residents described seeing flashing lights in the sky, followed by loud explosions.
Former Jammu and Kashmir DGP Shesh Paul Vaid confirmed the blackout.
Taking to X, he posted, “Complete blackout in Jammu. Loud explosions—bombing, shelling, or missile strikes suspected. Fret not—Mata Vaishno Devi is with us, and so are the valiant Indian Armed Forces.”
Multiple residents, however, said sirens went off in several areas. Officials activated missile interception systems amid fears of further strikes.
Sources said Pakistan launched drones in large numbers across the International Border. Jammu airport reportedly faced a possible attack.
Authorities have not issued an official statement yet, but defence forces are on high alert.
Full Blackout reported in many cities of India, including Jammu, Barmulla in Kashmir, and Pathankot in Punjab.
According to reports, two JF-17 and one F-16 were downed by the Indian Armed Forces.
The situation remains tense as security agencies monitor the skies and investigate the scale of the attack.
