Pakistan Govt’s X Account Withheld In India Following Pahalgam Attack

Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, with the official X account of the Government of Pakistan being withheld in India.

Users in India attempting to access @GovtofPakistan on X now receive a message stating that the platform withheld the account due to a legal demand.

The attack, which occurred on 22 April in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadow in Anantnag district, resulted in the brutal deaths of 28 people, most of them tourists, with several others injured.

The assault has shocked the nation and raised concerns over cross-border terrorism.

India’s Countermeasures Against Pakistan

In response to the attack, India has implemented several strong countermeasures against Pakistan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chairing a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, decided to suspend the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty until Pakistan takes verifiable action to end its support for cross-border terrorism.

In addition to the suspension of the treaty, India has closed the integrated Attari Check Post, a major crossing point between the two nations.

The government also announced the cancellation of visas granted under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) and demanded that Pakistani nationals leave India within 48 hours.

India has further declared the Defence, Military, Naval, and Air Advisors at the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi as persona non grata, giving them one week to depart.
In retaliation, India has also decided to withdraw its Defence, Navy, and Air Advisors from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.

This move will annul these posts, and both High Commissions will recall five support staff.

The total number of staff at both high commissions will reduce from 55 to 30, with the reductions likely to take effect by 1 May 2025.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri outlined these measures in a press briefing following the CCS meeting on Wednesday.
