Over 25 Train And 110 Flight Delayed As National Capital Gets Engulfed In Fog; IMD Gives Warning To Delhi People

On December 27, Delhi was covered in a heavy layer of fog as the cold wave that was affecting northern India persisted. The dense fog that shrouded the nation’s capital caused reduced visibility, traffic disruptions, and hazy morning conditions for residents, delaying commuters. Today’s reported temperature is almost seven degrees. According to IMD, a “dense to very dense” fog advisory has been issued for December 27–29 for Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and several other states.

Trains and planes badly affected in Delhi fog

Trains leaving and arriving in New Delhi after this are delayed because of fog and poor visibility. Over 25 trains, including arrival and departure trains, are running late, according to report. Speaking of planes, the Delhi Airport’s FIDS (Flight Information Display System) has stated that 110 flights, both domestic and international, are delayed. This information was reported by ANI. As of 8:30 AM on Wednesday, the following flights were affected: 28 domestic departure flights, 15 domestic arrival flights, 42 domestic departure flights, and 25 domestic arrival flights.

Speaking about visibility, at 7 am, Safdarjung Airport at Delhi (Palam) Airport reported 50 meters of visibility, according to IMD. Thick fog shrouded morning views from Delhi’s Dhaula Kuan, India Gate, Barapullah, and the Delhi-Noida border region.

Delhi Airport Authority issued advisory

The Delhi Airport Authority has released an alert indicating that planes that do not comply with category III (CAT III) requirements may experience difficulties even while landings and takeoffs are continuing.

“While landings and take offs continue at Delhi Airport, flights that are not CAT III complaint may get affected. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted,” the Delhi airport stated in a post of X.

Notably, an instrument landing system known as CAT III permits flights to land in low visibility situations like fog, snow, and rain.

Another warning from IMD

The IMD also warned of possible health impacts on people due to the dense fog in the national capital. “Dense fog contains particulate matter and other pollutants and in case exposed it gets lodged in the lungs, clogging them and decreasing their functional capacity which increases episodes of wheezing, coughing and shortness of breath,” IMD said in a release.
