On Tuesday, Delhi Police returned 12,600 recovered mobile phones to their rightful owners during a programme attended by Lieutenant Governor TS Sindhu, who called it a strong example of technology-enabled policing.
Praising the police force, the LG stated, “I am informed that Delhi Police has seized around 16,000 devices this year, with a recovery rate of 74 per cent. Today, 12,600 mobile phones are being returned across all districts. These figures reflect the strength of technology-based policing.”
The Delhi LG also praised the Delhi Police’s ‘Operation Vishwas’. Delhi Police launched the initiative to recover stolen, lost and snatched mobile phones. He also urged citizens to support law enforcement agencies in tackling crime.
“Technology alone cannot deliver such results. Behind every recovery lies the hard work of police personnel. Constables trace leads, officers coordinate verification, tech teams analyse inputs, and district units supervise operations,” he further asserted.
Highlighting the importance of public participation, the LG said cooperation from citizens, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), Market Welfare Associations (MWAs) and responsible media reporting makes policing more effective and humane.
“This spirit of cooperation will help position Delhi as a capital that reflects India’s civilisational values and modern aspirations,” the Delhi LG added.
Speaking about the future of policing, LG Sindhu noted that Delhi Police should adopt a global outlook.
“Today, the world views India as a leading nation in technology-driven governance. India’s leadership in Digital Public Infrastructure demonstrates how innovation can strengthen public trust and improve governance,” he further said.
The LG also praised Police Commissioner Satish Golcha. He said Operation Vishwas reflects India’s efforts to build a modern, transparent and trustworthy policing system.
Concluding the event, LG Sindhu expressed confidence in Delhi Police’s future efforts. He said the force would continue adopting new technologies and remain firm against crime.
The Delhi LG also said Delhi Police would improve public service with a humane and accountable approach.
