Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) on Tuesday announced that its maritime subsidiary Astro Offshore has entered a strategic partnership with US-based engineering and applied technology company Oceaneering International Inc.
The collaboration aims to expand Astro Offshore’s presence in ultra-deepwater and subsea operations while strengthening its offshore engineering capabilities in European markets.
According to the company, the agreement focuses on specialised offshore opportunities involving underwater construction, pipeline installation, inspection and maintenance operations.
The partnership also aligns with APSEZ’s broader objective of building a globally diversified marine platform covering logistics, offshore support services and deepwater infrastructure solutions.
As part of its expansion strategy, Astro Offshore has inducted ‘Astro Atlas’, its first ultra-deepwater vessel, to strengthen operational capabilities and modernise its fleet with advanced marine technology.
APSEZ Whole-time Director and Chief Executive Officer Ashwani Gupta stated that the collaboration supports the company’s ambition to create a globally diversified marine business platform.
Gupta further explained that Astro Offshore’s growing high-specification fleet, combined with Oceaneering’s deepwater engineering expertise and remotely operated vehicle capabilities, would strengthen operations in complex offshore projects while accelerating expansion into Europe.
Astro Offshore Chief Executive Officer Mark Humphreys said the addition of Astro Atlas significantly enhances the company’s ultra-deepwater capabilities and allows it to handle a broader range of offshore assignments.
The 97-metre DP2 multipurpose support vessel, previously known as Energy Savannah, features advanced subsea systems, including a 150-tonne crane, secondary crane, moonpool and accommodation facilities for nearly 100 personnel.
The vessel can operate in water depths exceeding 3,000 metres, according to the company.
The partnership comes as APSEZ accelerates its long-term marine growth strategy targeting a 200-vessel fleet, marine revenue of Rs 6,000 crore and capital expenditure of Rs 13,000 crore by FY31.
