Onam, Eid Milad-un-Nabi: PM Modi Extends Greetings, Wishes Happiness And Prosperity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday extended greetings to people across India and around the world on the occasions of Onam and Eid Milad-un-Nabi, wishing for happiness, togetherness and prosperity.

Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi conveyed his Onam greetings, saying, “Wishing everyone a beautiful Onam. This is a vibrant festival celebrated with great enthusiasm all over the world. May this festival further empower the spirit of happiness, togetherness, and prosperity. Have a wonderful Onam. This is a vibrant festival that is being marked all over the world with immense fervour. May it further the spirit of happiness, togetherness and prosperity.”

The Prime Minister greeted people on Eid Milad-un-Nabi, saying, “Eid Mubarak! Greetings on Milad-un-Nabi. I hope this occasion furthers togetherness and joy all around us. May the spirit of kindness and giving back to society always guide us.”

Onam Celebrations

Onam is Kerala’s biggest and one of its most colourful harvest festivals. Celebrated over 10 days during the Malayalam month of Chingam, it generally falls in August or September and celebrates harvest, abundance, cultural traditions and social harmony.

According to Drik Panchang, Thiruvonam, the festival’s most significant day, falls on Wednesday.

According to Hindu mythology, Onam marks the annual return of King Mahabali, remembered as a wise and generous ruler whose reign was associated with peace and prosperity.

Milad-un-Nabi Significance

Eid Milad-un-Nabi, known as Eid-e-Milad or Mawlid, commemorates the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad. It is observed on the 12th day of Rabi’ ul-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar.

In India, it is being observed on August 26 this year, with festivities beginning on August 25.

The occasion has historically been marked by gatherings featuring poems and verses praising the Prophet.

According to multiple reports, the celebration gained prominence during the Fatimid Caliphate in Egypt before spreading across West Asia and South Asia.

The festival is now observed in several countries, including Sri Lanka, the UK, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Russia and Germany.
