Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday greeted National Security Guard (NSG) personnel on the force’s 42nd Raising Day, praising their courage, precision and commitment to protecting the country against terrorism.
In a post on X, PM Modi said the Black Cats’ vigilance against terrorist threats and readiness to protect citizens and vital national assets inspired confidence and pride.
Greetings to the personnel of the National Security Guard on their Raising Day.
They embody courage, precision and an unwavering commitment to duty. Their steadfast vigil against terrorism and their readiness to protect our people and vital national assets inspire immense confidence and pride.

The Prime Minister’s post featured images highlighting the commandos’ operational capabilities and training. These included personnel rappelling from a helicopter onto a vessel, conducting waterborne assault exercises, participating in a parade with NSG vehicles and canine units, and practising close-quarters manoeuvres in confined spaces.
The NSG was established on October 16, 1984, as a specialised federal contingency force under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It handles counter-terrorism operations, hostage rescue missions and other high-risk security challenges.
The force follows a ‘zero error’ operational philosophy, emphasising precision, discipline and swift responses during sensitive missions. Its personnel, however, undergo specialised training to operate across different environments and respond to complex security threats.
The NSG’s Raising Day recognises its contribution to India’s internal security and its preparedness to tackle terrorist attacks and other emergencies requiring coordinated, high-precision action.
