In a shocking act of violence, two masked, armed assailants shot American NRI Sukhchain Singh at close range on Saturday at his residence in Daburji village, Amritsar district.
The attackers struck in broad daylight while Singh’s family, including his minor children, pleaded with them to spare their father.
The gunshots to Singh’s head and neck caused severe injuries, and medics rushed him in critical condition to a private hospital in Amritsar.
CCTV footage captures the attack, which likely links to local gang activity and a property dispute involving Singh’s in-laws.
The CCTV footage reveals that the assailants arrived on a motorcycle and, without concealing their identities, entered the home under the guise of inquiring about the registration certificate of Singh’s newly purchased luxury car.
Once inside, one of the assailants brandished a gun and forced Singh to move towards a bedroom.
Despite Singh’s resistance, both attackers fired at him at close range.
During the attack, Singh’s family attempted to intervene, but the assailants managed to flee the scene.
The video also shows local residents rushing to Singh’s aid as he lay on the ground following the shooting.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Vishaljit Singh confirmed that the police have secured the CCTV footage and have launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the attack and gather information about the suspects.
Singh had returned from the US approximately a month ago and was in the process of acquiring a hotel and a luxury vehicle.
The police are exploring the possibility that the shooting is linked to a property dispute and local gang involvement.
Singh’s family reports that the attackers made no ransom demand during the assault.
