Northwestern Region Likely To Experience Strong Winds Today; IMD Issues Alert

Amidst the influence of the western disturbance, the strong surface winds (20-30 kmph) may prevail over the plains of Northwest India on February 01. Moreover, heavy pouring and snowfall are predicted in the western Himalayan Region from February 02 to February 04. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert regarding bone-chilling cold weather in the region.

Heavy rains may lash parts of South Tamil Nadu.

Scattered showers with thunderstorms are expected over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep.

Isolated rainfall is forecast over Arunachal Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.

Air quality is likely to be very poor over East India and North India, Central India, Northeast India, West India and South India.

IMD Weather Report

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi-NCR will experience a comeback of the cold waves. Amid the temperature dip in the northern region, several trains and flights are delayed from their scheduled time.

The maximum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 20.2 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and the minimum temperature was recorded at 9.9 degrees Celsius. As per the weather agency, today i.e. on Wednesday also the temperature is expected to be around this.

Moreover, Delhi-NCR may remain partly cloudy on Wednesday and light rain is also expected. However, the IMD has predicted that people may experience relief in the coming days.

More than 350 roads, including three national highways, have been closed to traffic due to fresh snowfall in the high-altitude and tribal areas of Himachal Pradesh. On Tuesday, officials said that out of more than 450 roads closed due to snowfall in the last 24 hours, 140 have been opened. Also, the official said that 357 roads are still closed.

Further, the official said that a maximum of 154 roads were blocked in Lahaul-Spiti, 86 in Shimla, 73 in Kinnaur, 26 in Kullu, 13 in Chamba, three in Mandi and two in Kangra district. According to data from the State Emergency Operation Center, 540 transformers and 34 water supply schemes were also disrupted across the state. Officials of the Public Works Department said that personnel and machines have been deployed to remove snow from the roads in the snowfall areas and they are working at full capacity.
