Northeast Not Periphery But Pulsating Heart Of India’s Growth Story: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that for the first time, the Northeast is not the periphery but the pulsating heart of India’s growth story. He emphasised that from new airports to empowered self-help groups, and from connectivity to creativity.

Hence, Arunachal Pradesh reflects the true spirit of Viksit Bharat.

PM Modi shared on X an article written by Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. He highlighted the transformation and growing significance of Arunachal Pradesh in India’s developmental journey.

Taking to X, the Prime Minister’s Office posted, “From new airports to empowered SHGs, from connectivity to creativity, Arunachal Pradesh mirrors the spirit of Viksit Bharat. A must-read piece by Union Minister Shri @JM_Scindia.”

Scindia described how the Northeast, referred to by the Prime Minister as ‘Ashtalakshmi’. It is no longer a remote frontier but a vibrant hub driving India’s progress.

“In today’s @IndianExpress, I share my awe-inspiring visit to Arunachal Pradesh’s Ziro Valley, witnessing its rapid transformation while cherishing its timeless cultural heritage, all aligned with PM Shri @narendramodi ji’s transformative vision of a #RisingNortheast,” Scindia wrote.

In his article, the minister expressed how every visit to the Northeast reinvigorates and inspires him.

“Many call it the periphery of India; however, it is the very heart, beating in many colours, sounds, and textures. A garland of pearls, strung together by countless communities, cultures and ways of life, woven seamlessly into the eternal rhythm of nature. No wonder our Prime Minister calls it the Ashtalakshmi, a region of diversity and opportunity,” he noted.

Ziro Valley, home to the world-famous Ziro Music Festival, ranks among the top global music festivals.

Scindia observed that local artisans showcased their crafts, and thanks to Digital India and the Jan Dhan-Aadhaar-Mobile trinity.  Cashless payments were effortless.

Across villages, Self-Help Groups (SHGs) are creating inclusive livelihoods. They are being supported under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana and the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana.

“From weaving textiles dyed in natural hues, to fermenting fruits into pickles and wines, to carving ornaments from bamboo and stone, their enterprises are vessels of culture, dignity, and hope. At the Goodwill Enclosure, I was also humbled to meet the 1811 Medium Regiment, the guardians of our country’s valour, before pausing to pay homage to our Army martyrs,” Scindia said.

He also met soldiers of the 1811 Medium Regiment at the Goodwill Enclosure and paid tribute to India’s martyrs. He acknowledged their unmatched courage and sacrifice.
