Noida International Airport Opens As PM Modi Flags Major Aviation Milestone

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Noida International Airport in Jewar, marking a major advancement in India’s aviation network. He also reviewed an exhibition outlining the project’s construction journey, accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Developed under the Public-Private Partnership model, the project required an investment of nearly Rs 11,200 crore.

Phase I has now become operational. The Prime Minister’s Office stated that the airport will serve as a key international gateway for the National Capital Region, enhancing both domestic and global connectivity.

The new facility will function as the second international airport for Delhi-NCR, complementing the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Together, both hubs will ease congestion, boost passenger handling, and strengthen the region’s standing in global aviation.

Recognised as one of India’s largest greenfield airport projects, the airport will initially handle around 12 million passengers annually, with scalability up to 70 million. It features a 3,900-metre runway capable of handling wide-body aircraft, along with advanced Instrument Landing Systems and modern airfield lighting for all-weather operations.

The airport includes a robust cargo ecosystem, featuring a Multi-Modal Cargo Hub with an integrated terminal and logistics zones. It can process over 2.5 lakh metric tonnes annually, expandable to nearly 18 lakh metric tonnes. A 40-acre Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul facility further enhances operational capability.

Designed as a sustainable infrastructure project, the airport aims for net-zero emissions through energy-efficient systems.

Its architecture blends modern design with traditional Indian elements inspired by ghats and havelis.

Authorities deployed extensive security arrangements, dividing the region into multiple zones and ensuring strict surveillance for smooth proceedings.
