Noida International Airport Joins United Nations Global Compact, Reinforcing Commitment To Sustainable Development

Noida International Airport (NIA) announced its membership in the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) on Tuesday, marking a significant step in its commitment to sustainable development. As the world’s largest voluntary corporate sustainability initiative, the UNGC engages companies worldwide to uphold principles in human rights, labor standards, environmental protection, and anti-corruption.

Aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goals

By joining the UNGC, NIA has pledged to integrate the UN’s Ten Principles into its operational strategies, supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through responsible business practices. “Joining the UNGC is a natural extension of our mission to build a world-class, sustainability-driven airport,” said Christoph Schnellmann, CEO of Noida International Airport. He added that NIA is dedicated to incorporating sustainable practices at every stage of development.

Commitment to Transparency and Environmental Goals

Through the UNGC, NIA will provide regular, transparent reports on its progress in areas like environmental responsibility, labor relations, and anti-corruption. The airport’s focus on sustainable design and operations is key to achieving its ambitious net-zero emissions goal, a commitment that guided the selection of NIA’s planning, design teams, construction partners, and concessionaires.

NIA will serve as a major hub connecting the Delhi area and western Uttar Pradesh with cities across India and internationally.

Progress on Construction and Partnerships

The construction of Noida International Airport has reached an advanced stage, with significant milestones achieved in preparation for operational readiness. “We are making steady progress on the runway, terminal, and control tower, with upcoming weeks critical for completion,” said the NIA team.

In line with its sustainable practices, NIA recently awarded contracts for ground handling, commercial operations, and essential maintenance, and signed agreements with multiple airlines to establish flight connections from the new airport.

By joining the UN Global Compact, NIA aligns with a global movement dedicated to sustainability, further strengthening its role as a responsible business leader as it nears the start of commercial operations.
