Nitish Kumar Slams Lalu Prasad, ‘Produced Too Many Children’ in Political Dynastic Critique

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar took aim at Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, accusing him of perpetuating dynastic politics by promoting his family members. Speaking at a rally in Katihar, Kumar criticized Lalu Prasad for appointing his wife as Bihar’s chief minister after his resignation. He questioned the proliferation of Lalu’s offspring in politics, rhetorically asking if anyone should have so many children solely for political purposes.

“Too many have been produced… Is it right to have so many offspring?” Kumar queried. He highlighted the involvement of Lalu’s daughters, Misa Bharti and Rohini Acharya, who are contesting parliamentary elections from Pataliputra and Saran respectively. Additionally, Kumar pointed out Lalu’s sons, with Tejashwi Yadav previously serving as deputy chief minister and Tej Pratap Yadav holding the environment portfolio in Kumar’s previous administration.

Kumar emphasized the lack of development during Lalu’s tenure, stating, “People couldn’t move freely, there were inadequate roads and education facilities.” This critique comes amidst Tejashwi Yadav emerging as the primary challenger to Kumar’s nearly two-decade rule in Bihar.

Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge condemned Nitish Kumar’s opportunism during his election rallies in Kishanganj and Katihar Lok Sabha constituencies. Kharge labeled Kumar as “more dangerous” than the BJP, alleging his lack of principles and prioritization of power over ideology. He referenced Tejashwi Yadav’s grievances against his uncle, indicating discord within the opposition.

Notably, the Janata Dal (United) is contesting the Lok Sabha elections as part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), following Kumar’s departure from the opposition coalition he had previously supported.
