Nitish Kumar has received a new official residence in New Delhi following his election to the Rajya Sabha, moving to one of the capital’s most prominent and secure locations. He will now live in a Type-8 bungalow at Sunehri Bagh in Lutyens’ Delhi, a high-security area that houses several senior political leaders.
The locality includes residences of leaders such as Amit Shah, Rahul Gandhi, and Chirag Paswan, reflecting its status as a key administrative and political hub.
Earlier, Nitish Kumar stayed at Kamraj Lane, but authorities have now assigned him a larger residence in the highest category of government housing.
In Lutyens’ Delhi, officials classify government accommodations from Type-1 to Type-8, with Type-8 bungalows reserved for top-ranking leaders and dignitaries. These residences typically cover 8,000 to 8,500 square feet and include multiple bedrooms, large living and dining spaces, study rooms, garages, and well-maintained lawns.
Authorities equip them with advanced security systems, including round-the-clock personnel, surveillance cameras, and controlled access points to ensure safety.
Alongside the new residence, officials have upgraded Nitish Kumar’s security to Z+ category protection by the CRPF, one of the highest security arrangements available in India.
The government usually allots such premium residences to individuals who hold or have held significant constitutional positions.
Prominent leaders like Rajnath Singh and M Venkaiah Naidu have also occupied similar accommodations in the past.
Nitish Kumar took oath as a Rajya Sabha member on April 10 and resigned as Bihar Chief Minister on April 13, leading to the formation of a new government in the state.
