In a significant development in Bihar politics, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced that he will seek election to the Rajya Sabha. The decision puts an end to speculation surrounding his political future.
In a message posted on the social media platform X, Kumar addressed the people of the state. He expressed gratitude for their continued trust and support over the past two decades.
Bihar CM said their faith had enabled him to serve Bihar with dedication. He further added that this support had contributed to the state’s progress and growing respect at the national level.
Kumar added that since the beginning of his parliamentary career, he had aspired to become a member of both Houses of the Bihar Legislature and Parliament. In that spirit, he announced his decision to contest the Rajya Sabha elections being held this time.
Reassuring the people, Kumar said his relationship with the citizens of Bihar would remain intact and that his resolve to work towards building a developed state would continue. He also stated that he would provide full support and guidance to the new government that will be formed.
The announcement has triggered heightened political activity across the state.
As discussions around Kumar’s Rajya Sabha move intensified, reports of dissent emerged within the ranks of Janata Dal (United).
Amid the growing political developments, security was tightened around the Chief Minister’s residence. A large number of police personnel were deployed at both main gates, and patrols were stepped up in nearby areas. The entire vicinity was placed on high alert, resembling a high-security zone.
Since morning, JD(U) workers gathered outside the Chief Minister’s residence, raising slogans of ‘Nitish Kumar Zindabad’.
Supporters reaffirmed their backing for his leadership, stating that the public mandate was given to him as Chief Minister.
The move is being seen as a major turning point in Bihar’s political landscape. Kumar’s entry into the Rajya Sabha could potentially reshape the state’s leadership structure. It may also mark a new phase in his political journey.
