India–Finland Relations In Focus As PM Modi Meets President Alexander Stubb

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held bilateral talks with Finnish President Alexander Stubb at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, focusing on ways to deepen cooperation between India and Finland across multiple sectors.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the talks focused on strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation in trade, technology, innovation, and sustainability.

The leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments and discussed collaboration in multilateral forums.

PM Narendra Modi hosted a lunch in honour of Alexander Stubb during the State Visit.

Earlier, S Jaishankar met President Stubb and discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation ahead of the Prime Minister’s meeting. He also expressed anticipation for Stubb’s address at the Raisina Dialogue.

Before the meetings, the Finnish President paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

Alexander Stubb arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a three-day visit at the invitation of PM Narendra Modi, accompanied by ministers, officials, and business leaders.

During his stay, he will meet Droupadi Murmu and CP Radhakrishnan. He will later travel to Mumbai to meet Acharya Devvrat and Devendra Fadnavis, interact with industry leaders, and address students at the University of Mumbai.

The Ministry of External Affairs stated that India and Finland share warm and multifaceted relations based on democratic values and strong cooperation in innovation, technology, and education.

Finland remains an important partner for India within the European Union and the Nordic region.

The ministry added that President Stubb’s visit reflects both countries’ commitment to expanding cooperation across multiple sectors and strengthening people-to-people ties.

The visit follows the recent trip of Petteri Orpo to India for the AI Impact Summit in February 2026, highlighting the growing momentum in bilateral engagement.
