Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened a private meeting at Hotel Maurya in Patna, fuelling widespread speculation over electoral manoeuvres as the state Assembly elections approach.
Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, along with Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Sanjay Jha, also participated in the discussions.
According to sources, the talks primarily revolved around seat-sharing arrangements and the broader strategy for the NDA in Bihar.
This marks the first major formal engagement between Nitish Kumar and Amit Shah since the Chief Minister rejoined the NDA alliance in 2024.
Political analysts suggest that the outcome of this meeting could play a crucial role in shaping the pre-election landscape in Bihar.
Speculation over seat allocation within the NDA has been mounting for several weeks. Both the BJP and JD(U) are keen to secure a leading role, while smaller allies have intensified their demands.
The LJP (Ram Vilas), led by Chirag Paswan, has sought a ‘respectable’ share of seats, with Jamui MP Arun Bharti indicating a claim ranging from 43 to 137 constituencies.
Meanwhile, Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha has requested 20 seats.
Amit Shah is on a two-day tour of Bihar, during which he will likely conduct multiple high-level organisational meetings aimed at consolidating the BJP ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections.
On Thursday, Shah will visit Dehri in Rohtas district to interact with grassroots party workers.
The area is strategically important, as the BJP secured only two of the 20 seats in the Shahabad belt covering Rohtas, Kaimur, Bhojpur, and Buxar districts during the 2020 elections.
After the Dehri engagement, Shah will likely proceed to Begusarai to lead a session with local MPs, MLAs, MLCs, and district presidents, focusing on election planning and organisational strengthening.
Party sources indicate that the visit forms part of the BJP’s broader effort to energise weaker regions and mobilise its cadre in areas where it underperformed in the previous polls.
