Nita Ambani Shares Vision For Sustainable Olympics And Promotes Indian Artisans At Harvard India Conference

Nita Ambani, Founder and Chairperson of Reliance Foundation, delivered an inspiring keynote address at the Harvard India Conference on Indian Business, Policy & Culture on Monday. She highlighted India’s bid for the 2036 Olympics and shared her vision for making the event the greenest and most sustainable in history. Additionally, she discussed the Swadesh initiative, a project aimed at empowering Indian artisans, and offered insights into her personal journey from humble beginnings.

In her address, Ambani passionately spoke about India’s bid to host the 2036 Olympics, emphasizing the nation’s potential and the significance of bringing the Games to India. “I believe that India must have the Olympics,” she stated. Ambani pointed out that India, as the third-largest economy in the world, is the only one of the top 10 global economies that has yet to host the prestigious event.

She continued, “It will be our pride to host that,” and expressed confidence in the country’s ability to host a sustainable Olympics. Ambani outlined plans to refurbish and reuse existing stadiums and campuses, ensuring minimal environmental impact. “If we bid for it and get it, I assure you that we’ll be the greenest Olympics ever,” she promised, adding that the time was right for India to take center stage.

Swadesh: Empowering Indian Artisans

Ambani also spoke about her initiative, Swadesh, which aims to empower India’s vast community of artisans. She shared how her visit to Nathdwara, a temple town in Rajasthan, inspired her to create the Swadesh Store, designed to spotlight Indian arts and crafts. “India has more than 10 million artisans, and Swadesh is working to market their products,” she explained.

The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre: A Vision Realized

Ambani also reflected on the creation of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC), a landmark institution celebrating India’s rich heritage. She recalled how her experiences traveling with her children to iconic venues like Broadway and the Sydney Opera House sparked the idea for a similar cultural center in India. “We need to have something like this in our country,” she said, highlighting her vision of bringing India’s cultural legacy to the world.

Since its opening, NMACC has welcomed over 2 million visitors from around the globe. Ambani proudly shared, “It was meant to bring the best of India to the world and the best of the world to India.”

Exciting Announcements For NMACC And Swadesh

In an exciting new development, Ambani announced plans for a NMACC weekend event at the Lincoln Center in New York. The event will include a fashion show showcasing the work of Swadesh artisans, offering a global platform for Indian talent.
