Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will undertake an official visit to Canada and the United States from August 25 to September 2.
The visit will focus on strengthening bilateral economic and financial partnerships, deepening investment linkages and advancing cooperation on shared global economic priorities.
In Toronto, Sitharaman will participate in the inaugural Economic and Financial Dialogue with Canada’s Minister of Finance and National Revenue, Francois-Philippe Champagne.
The dialogue will cover macroeconomic developments, financial sector cooperation, bilateral investment opportunities and shared international priorities, while strengthening the economic and financial pillar of the renewed India-Canada partnership. She will participate in an Investment Roundtable with leading CEOs, Presidents and senior representatives, primarily from the energy, artificial intelligence and critical minerals sectors.
The discussions will seek to promote business-to-business linkages, identify investment opportunities and advance long-term commercial partnerships, including opportunities in GIFT City-IFSC.
Sitharaman will hold separate meetings with Canadian company leaders to discuss India’s growth prospects and opportunities for expanding Canadian business presence in India.
In the US, Sitharaman will travel to Chicago, Asheville in North Carolina and New York.
In Chicago, Sitharaman will participate in a roundtable with investors and engage with private-sector leaders on India’s investment opportunities, economic outlook and business partnerships. She will visit the Polsky Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Chicago.
In Asheville, Sitharaman will lead India’s delegation at the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting under the US G20 presidency. While in New York, she will participate in an Investor Roundtable with leading companies. NASDAQ will host her for a bell-ringing ceremony.
The visit will, however, provide insights into technology-driven financial markets and the evolving relationship between technology and capital markets.
