The National Institute of Naturopathy (NIN), under the Ministry of Ayush, collaborated with INO Surya Foundation and Dr GD Pol Foundation to organise a two-day national seminar on ‘De-addiction Through Yoga and Naturopathy’ in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, on 24–25 October 2026.
The event aimed to raise awareness about addiction prevention and encourage healthier lifestyles through yoga and naturopathy.
In a virtual address, Union Minister for Ayush and Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Jadhav highlighted the physical, mental and social challenges facing people today. He said yoga, meditation, pranayama, Ayurveda and naturopathy could support balanced living and contribute to the vision of a drug-free India.
Jadhav expressed his willingness to consider demands for including yoga and naturopathy in the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) Act and introducing registration for naturopathy practitioners.
Several dignitaries attended the inaugural ceremony, which INO National President Anant Biradar led.
On 25 October, more than 2,000 participants from 12 states and Kharghar gathered at Central Park for a mass yoga session, kirtan by ISKCON saints and a human chain promoting an addiction-free society.
The initiative was recorded in the IEA Book of World Records.
IEA Book of Records Director Dr Sandeep Singh presented the record certificate to Biradar.
The seminar, however, featured sessions on pain management, diabetes, lifestyle-related diseases and youth development.
Experts discussed professional registration, accreditation, regulation and the Maharashtra Yoga-Naturopathy Bill, 2016.
The second day covered addiction prevention and rehabilitation, fasting therapy, non-communicable diseases, scientific research, traditional knowledge, communication skills and human relationships.
The seminar, however, concluded by emphasising that public awareness, positive lifestyle choices and collective action are essential to building a healthier society.
